We are big fans of Canon’s PIXMA all-in-one (AIO) printer range, which includes the Canon PIXMA MX870 that we deemed to be a capable SME network workhorse. Canon has now announced the launch of three new AIO models targeted at the home office environment, namely the PIXMA MX375, PIXMA MX435 and PIXMA MX515.

Canon PIXMA MX515

Kicking things off is the PIXMA MX515 aimed at the higher-end of the home office user. Design wise it sports a 6.2 cm colour TFT display, enabling users to preview photos straight from the memory card slots. Another feature adding to its ease of use is the Dual Function Panel, which displays (lights up) only the keys that can be utilised when performing a certain function.  

Canon’s MX515 includes ECO settings software, the latest addition to the Japanese firm’s handy Menu EX printing solution. It monitors how much paper and carbon dioxide is being saved through Auto Duplex printing.

In terms of connectivity PIXMA MX515 offers users greater flexibility for users. Like many new offerings, built-in Wi-Fi means that documents and photos can be printed from any area covered by a wireless network. The MX515 can save straight to memory cards via the built-in card slots and has the ability to convert documents into PDF format to save to a PC.  

AirPrint is also supported, enabling direct printing from a user’s iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, as this functionality allows users to wirelessly print photos, e-mails, web pages and other documents sans the need to install device drivers. An Ethernet connection on the MX515 makes it possible to share the print and scanning functionalities of the printer with multiple PCs.

According to Canon the new MX515 delivers quick photo and document printing speeds with the enhanced ISO speeds of around 9.7 ipm (images per minute) mono and 5.5 ipm colour. This model is able to produce ISO A4 copy speeds of 21 seconds.

Canon PIXMA MX375

A more affordable printing solution for home office users is the PIXMA MX375. Like the MX515 and MX435 it also features a fully integrated Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) for easy copying, scanning and faxing of multiple-page jobs, while the Super G3 high-speed fax provides the option to save to USB. Canon’s MX375 delivers ISO speeds of about 8.7 ipm mono and 5 ipm colour and ISO A4 copy speeds of 23 seconds.

This AIO might not provide users with access to the ECO settings software, but Canon’s user-friendly Easy-WebPrint EX is onboard, allowing users to do print only the sections of the web pages that they require, saving paper and ink. Using this software also enables users to combine multiple web pages and print these on a single page using Auto Clip or the fit-to-page option.

Users can enhance their photos via Easy-PhotoPrint EX software using newly added Fun Filter Effect and artistic image effects that can be applied to prints, such as Blur Background, Fish-eye, Soft Focus, Miniature and Toy Camera. The software also ties in with some of Canon’s imaging products as it enables users to capture and print HD Movie stills from full HD (1080p) video footage shot using Canon’s range of digital SLRs or digital still cameras.

Canon PIXMA MX435

Slotting in right between the MX515 and MX375 is the PIXMA MX435. Like the other two models in this new range, the MX 435 features a compact, FastFront design, allowing paper and ink cartridges to be loaded into the front of the printer. This means that the units can be placed against a wall or on a shelf in order to save up on some desk real estate.

The MX435 also includes the same connectivity options (besides an Ethernet port) as well as the same document printing speeds offered by its bigger brother in the range, the MX515. Also on-board is a Quick Start function ensuring that the MX435 powers up quickly for on-demand printing jobs.

As with the rest of the new MX line-up, the MX435 makes use of Canon’s new XL FINE colour ink cartridges. These will enable users to save up to 50% on printing cost per page according to Canon.

Availability

Canon’s MX375, MX435 and MX515 are available across South Africa from April 2012. No pricing details are available yet.
