Microsoft has officially announced that the public beta for its first Windows 7 Service Pack will launch on July 1, bringing with it a number of updates.

According to Microsoft, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 “will be a minor update containing roll ups of all updates that have been released for the OS since October 2009. Windows Update has been a more direct way for many years to have the most current version of Windows installed on your PC”.

Among the additions will be greater remote desktop support through Microsoft RemoteFX which will enable the user to access their desktops in “high fidelity” while storing their data and applications at a remote location. Although this is nothing new for the PC world as a whole, Windows 7 users will be glad to know that Microsoft is steadily ushering its systems towards greater cloud compatibility.

Dynamic Memory, another inclusion in Service Pack 1, will enable Windows Server Hyper V to allocate memory in a more efficient fashion which should lead to a better performing and more scalable virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).

Although these additions may appear inconsequential it is important to note that an operating system which doesn’t need saving by its first service pack (think Windows Vista) is a healthy one.
Thus far the technology community has widely acknowledged the leap forward taken by Microsoft in Windows 7, as a result the company has opted to change very little about it in Service Pack 1.
