Local internet service provider (ISP) XDSL has announced its latest offering dubbed Xtreme MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching). MPLS is a standards-approved technology for speeding up network traffic flow.

In contrast to many mainstream MPLS offerings, Xtreme MPLS makes use of a multiple-network platform, and offers high WAN security as well as made-to-order levels of failover, network monitoring, traffic engineering and support.

Due to the strength of its Xtreme MPLS solution, XDSL recently managed to scoop a major client deal away from a more established ISP. Danie Fourie, director at XDSL explains: “Our Xtreme MPLS solution will drive the local operations of this multi-national client. It not only cuts the cost of the solution considerably for the company (XDSL’s 2 MB diginet pricing starts at R4 400) but adds significant value, doubling throughput and capacity, introducing improved failover, and making cloud services a reality.”

XDSL’s new client required speed, capacity, reliability and affordability when it comes to connectivity and Fourie said that XDSL’s Xtreme MPLS solution was able to meet all those requirements by providing a virtual private network (VPN) over a shared IP network using the infrastructure (fibre, 3G and wireless) of multiple service providers.

At each branch office (XDSL has more than 30 branches nationally) the ISP provides two ADSL lines, an IP Connect bundle for data as well as cloud services and a 3G APN network. To facilitate hosting, monitoring and support, XDSL runs its own data centre and has a presence in three other major data centres around the country. The firm makes use of a 24-hour national operations centre to monitor quality of service, providing auto-failover on all links.

XDSL has grown its business significantly over the last two years and is gearing for 200% growth during 2013.

The telecommunications sector is moving forward rapidly, according to Fourie, with the market seeing a long-awaited perceptual shift among users, as businesses as well as consumers become aware of the considerable benefit from engaging with ISPs that make use of multiple networks.

These ISPs can offer high levels of service and expertise, along with more innovative approaches to multi-faceted converged connectivity requirements. Another market shift is the one from a focus based purely around delivering infrastructure, to one that also promotes services that an ISP can provide on top of that infrastructure.
