BlackBerry’s Touch Awesomeness competition comes to a dramatic climax this week after nine weeks of creative endeavors. Last week’s challenge, Awesomeness for Dummies, saw us being schooled on all things awesome by South Africa’s own SABC stalwart news anchor, Riaan Cruywagen (aka Cruy-Cruy).

Now the final week of the competition challenges entrants to put this knowledge to the test by coming up with an awesome personal movie tagline for themselves.

This week’s challenge - Status Update of Awesomeness

Ever wanted to sit in a cinema and hear your name being read during an awesome trailer for the latest and greatest action movie! Well, this week’s challenge will make that dream come true (in a way), by allowing a talented artist to do a voice-over of the personal tagline you type in. This will be done in the conventional over the top, Hollywood flair-filled narration style, with the only real limitation being that you should avoid using any swear words.

Our experience

We started brainstorming by mulling over some of the best taglines and slogans used in our favourite movies such as “After a night they can’t remember comes a day they’ll never forget” from Dude, Where’s My Car? and “One man’s struggle to take it easy” from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. However this only made us want to head under the covers, reach for the butter-flavoured microwave popcorn and spend the day watching movies.

Another approach was needed, and we turned things around by focusing on quotes from TV land instead. Surprisingly, we hit gold immediately as Top Gear’s Stig was the first thing that popped into mind. Thus, we penned the following status: “Some say he was Steve Job’s most trusted adviser and that he routinely beats up a dozen UFC fighters using only the power of his mind. All we know is he is called the TechSmart Journo!”.

You can listen to this status here (praises via comments posted below and votes on the Touch Awesomeness page are always appreciated). The competition website states that it may take up to 48 hours for the audio clip, containing your status, to become available on the site, but ours took around 15 minutes. We received an email notification containing the link to the clip the moment it went live.

About the BlackBerry Touch Awesomeness competition

BlackBerry’s browser-based Touch Awesomeness competition has entrants completing ten tasks of “Awesomeness” on a weekly basis, giving them a chance to net one of ten all-touch BlackBerry Curve 9380 smartphones. One of these sleek new offerings was up for grabs each and every week.

Besides the chance to net an amazing new BlackBerry Curve smartphone, entrants will also earn a set amount of points for completing each week’s task. The person with the most points at the end of the ten weeks, will be able to drive off into the sunset in a new Audi A1 1.4 TFSI. Visit www.touchawesomeness.com to enter. The winner of this week’s task will be announced on 21 May, with the overall winner of the competition being revealed next week as well.
