If you plan to do any further research on the Internet about Canon’s latest compact release, the IXUS 980 IS, we suggest you search for the Canon PowerShot SD990 IS.

This is the name given to it in America. Why this is the case, we still have not managed to find out. Nevertheless, we were rather impressed by this no nonsense upgrade to the last IXUS model.

We were very pleased to see that Canon has included their new DIGIC 4 processor that was first seen in their really expensive SLR models. The IXUS boasts a 14.7 megapixel resolution and 3.7x optical zoom. The IXUS also comes with some advanced features like advanced image stabilisation to give the snap-happy Facebook addict crisp shots, even in low-lighting.

Probably the best feature (made possible by the DIGIC 4 processor) is Servo AF, a form of continuous focus tracking that tracks subjects right up until the moment of exposure.

RRP: R4899 (Prices subject to exchange rate fluctuations)
