The DSC-W55 is a very good and very well priced camera. It comes highly recommended; we have one in the office.

It has a 7.2 megapixel Super HAD CCD imager and a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens. These are two very good things, you want them both, but importantly you need the good lens. It is common for advertisers to go on about how many megapixels a camera has. But it means nothing if you don’t have a decent lens to get whatever it is that you’re taking a picture of onto the CCD imager.

The DSC-W55 has 3X optical zoom and is particularly straightforward to use. There are only a few dials and buttons on the back that you need to get to know and, for an entry level camera, this is worth a very close look. Picture quality is excellent and we found the macro lens feature to be very good, when used on a tripod. Get it at IT Junction for R1749. Call them on 012-661-3925 or visit www.itjretails.co.za.

PROS
Good Value, not very complex, good battery life.
CONS
Very basic functionality, not very good zoom options.
