These days almost anyone has the opportunity to become an instant internet celebrity. Using a little effort and imagination to create home videos, you can expose your content to millions of people on social media communities like YouTube and Zoopy. All you need is a capable camera and you’re on your way. The Toshiba Camileo S10 video camera comes with one-click-upload-to-YouTube functionality to assist you in your rise to digital stardom.
Toshiba’s latest mini-cam captures video at a resolution of 1080p and takes 5 megapixel photos. The latter is quite useful as most other mini-camcorders of a similar ilk offer picture quality that generally doesn\'t compare well to any reasonably priced compact digital camera. The quality of the still photos you get from the S10 are quite good however, with accurate detail and impressive colour.
The S10 has a polished, compact design with a 17.9 mm thick brush metal and glossy plastic cover, featuring a flip-out 2.5" LCD. The camera has 4x digital zoom (2x while recording in full HD), and the resolution of the video is brilliant. There’s no jerking or lag whatsoever while recording or viewing videos. But when shooting indoor- or during low-light conditions, the picture quality does tend to turn a little grainy and the colours become dark, so no Paris Hilton-esque night time shoots then.
Another minor problem is the fact that the camera only has 128 MB of internal memory, but you can easily address the issue by making use of an SD card. It has an HDMI port for quick video transfers to your HDTV, but can transfer videos to a standard TV as well.
Once you’re done capturing the footage, the ArcSoft Media Impression editing suite (packaged with the camcorder) makes it easy to burn the clips or pics to CD/DVD from your PC with its simple but intuitive interface.
All things considered, this is a neat little device that’s capable of excellent results in good light, but rather disappointing in low light conditions. It is available from Computer Corporation on 08616-08616.
PROS
Takes good still images, good quality video.
CONS
Quality deteriorates fast during bad light conditions.
