If you need an external hard-drive to backup all your precious data on, while also doing duty as a portable storage solution, allowing you to trade music, HD movies and TV series with your mates, then the Imation Apollo UX 1.5 TB portable hard-drive should be right up your alley.

The Apollo offers a whopping 1 500 GB of storage space, matching that of the Seagate FreeAgent Desk External Drive.

Imation’s Apollo UX 1.5 TB portable hard-drive has a compact frame (180 x 110 x 32 mm), which is nestled nicely within a scratch-free rubber and anti-static casing. Its 1.5 TB of storage space should be more than adequate for all your backup needs, using the provided NTI Shadow backup software. This software allows you to backup, synchronize and restore data, and is just as easy to use as Nero's backup solution.

Like most of these 1 TB sized-and-up portable hard-drives, it isn’t USB-powered, so you’ll need to plug in its two-point power plug to be able to use it. The Apollo also does not come with a vertical stand, and with such a large amount of space available, it's a shame that Imation didn't include a faster data transfer method such as eSATA.

The Imation Apollo UX 1.5 TB goes for about R1 965 (excl. VAT). Call Angie at Imation SA on 083-453-5451 for more info.

PROS
Easy-to-use backup software and vast amount of storage space.
CONS
It is a little on the heavy side and you need to plug in its adaptor to power it. No vertical stand.
