The SanDisk Max Endurance MicroSDXC memory card range serves a specific purpose: maximum longevity for continuous, heavy write cycles – exactly what you need for use in CCTV systems, security cameras, dashcams and bodycams.

SanDisk rate their flagship 256 GB card for up to 120 000 hours (over 13 years) of continuous recording, backed by a 15-year warranty upon registration. Endurance scales with capacity; the 128 GB version we tested offers 60 000 hours (6.8 years) of recording and a 10-year warranty.

Built to withstand harsh environments, the card operates in temperatures from -25°C to 85°C (ideal for dashcams sitting in direct sunlight), and is waterproof, shockproof and X-ray proof. Note, however, that the SanDisk Extreme PRO range offers matching environmental protection specs, so its not specific to this card.

With read speeds up to 100 MB/s and write speeds up to 40 MB/s, the 128 GB Max Endurance is sufficiently fast for steady video recording, both in Full HD and 4K. If speed is your priority, the Extreme PRO offers up to 100 MB/s read and 140 MB/s write speeds, making it better suited for high-burst photography rather than long-term write cycles.

While we tested the card and it performed well, it’s very difficult to test it against its claimed endurance capabilities of just over six years.

As far as competitors to the Max Endurance 128 GB, the following options are available locally.

Samsung PRO Endurance: Samsung’s equivalent 128 GB card promises slightly more recording time at 70 080 hours and adds physical wear resistance for frequent card removal. Read and write speeds match the SanDisk, but Samsung offers only a 5-year warranty compared to SanDisk’s 10 years.

SanDisk High Endurance: Within SanDisk’s own line-up, the High Endurance 128 GB costs about 40% less, but drops it longevity to just 10 000 hours of recording time (a sixth of the Max Endurance) and a 2-year warranty.
