Verbatim’s Store ‘n’ Go Portable Hard Drive might not be as stylish as the company’s InSight 500 GB portable hard drive, but it is just as practical, offering users 320 GB of storage space for all their pictures, videos, MP3s and documents.

Transferring your data

Measuring a mere 117 x 81 x 16 mm and weighing in at under 150 g, this HDD is ultra portable and compact so you won’t have any trouble carrying it around when popping over to your mates to share some movies and music. It is also powered via the USB cable so there is no hassles in carrying an external power supply with.

The Store ‘n’ Go utilises a USB 2.0 data cable and connection to transfer info to and from your PC or notebook, so the transfer speed (up to 480 MB/s) is adequate. The integration of USB 3.0 (up to ten times faster than USB 2.0) or eSATA (more than six times faster than USB 2.0, as used in the Verbatim portable hard drive eSATA and USB Combo) would have been a welcome addition as well, but with only 320 GB of storage space it isn’t really needed.

Backing up your data

Just like Verbatim’s other portable HDDs which we have reviewed in the past, the Store ‘n’ Go comes with Nero BackItUp & Burn Essentials software. You can employ this easy-to-use software to back-up and restore the most important info in the event that your PC crashes, as well as burning your backup files to CD or DVD.

Going green

Also included with the portable HDD is Green Button energy saving software which suspends the drive from spinning when it isn’t being used in order to save energy. Users can set the suspend mode to activate after ten minutes of non-use or immediately by double clicking the Green Button icon on the desktop.

The Verbatim Store ‘n’ Go Portable Hard Drive goes for a recommended retail price of R679 from GJ Janse van Rensburg at Drive Control Corporation at 011-201-8927.
PROS
Really compact, backup and energy saving software included.
CONS
No faster data transfer option than USB 2.0, only 320 GB of storage space.
