AfriGIS adds logbook functionality to navigation offerings
By Ryan Noik 30 September 2013 | Categories: newsTechnology innovation company AfriGIS has announced the launch of their integrated logbook functionality with their existing navigation tools.
The logbook functionality is integrated into their free AfriGIS Navigator product as well as the paid for AfriGIS Navigator Plus with Traffic offering.
AfriGIS MD Magnus Rademeyer explained that the logbook distinguishes itself by being seamlessly integrated into Navigator, enabling users to create a logbook while driving, without activating any other functionality.
More specifically, users only need register their Navigator and provide an email address. The system subsequently automatically links their travels and sends an email with the distances, start- and end street addresses and times, for the previous day. Perhaps the highlight though, particularly for those with a close eye on their budget, is that the functionality comes standard and at no extra cost to users.
Power plans
"For power users, a premium paid-for service includes accessing and exporting data from a centralised interface and managing the logbooks of multiple vehicles. The premium option also integrates with the real-time TracB component inside the AfriGIS Navigator,” explained Rademeyer.
“TracB allows users to view and track their devices in real time while navigating, or at specified time intervals when not driving. The premium option can function as a complete smartphone based vehicle tracking solution for under R20 per month, with the added benefit of built-in Navigation and Logbooks,” he continued.
On a more controversial note, the company has also taken into account tolls. Rademeyer explained that the daily logbook emails will include kilometres travelled. Relevant tolls, which would have been paid for on the trip, for a variety of vehicles, categories and classifications, will apparently also be included in the near future.
This would entail existing toll gates and as well as future tolling initiatives. Estimates on actual costs for different types of vehicles and payment options are also included.
To the point
In order to access the new functionality, users need to SMS their email address to 41488 so as to receive an email verification link. After verifying their address, users can then start logging their trips. While the logbook functionality is currently available on all BlackBerry devices, Android and iOS devices should receive the same in the next couple of weeks.
