Amazon's Alexa being readied for smartwatch and headphone rollout
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 8 January 2018 | Categories: newsAmazon is planning to expand the reach of its Alexa digital assistant. The company recently announced the availability of a mobile accessory development kit, which is designed to aid Alexa in making the move to smart devices other than speakers.
To that end, we could soon see the digital assistant make its move to connected devices such as headphones and smartwatches. Over the past couple of years, both headphones and smartwatches have featured an assistant of some sort, which makes a lot of sense for Amazon to get its version on more devices.
There is no fixed deadline for when these Alexa sporting smart devices will begin rolling out, but insiders believe we could see them as early as this year. As such, one might need to keep a keen eye on IFA 2018 in September, or perhaps an earlier event for the new offerings.
Either way, Amazon seems intent on matching rivals Apple and Google in the digital assistant race.
