Apple event slated for 15 March with a number of refreshes expected
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 3 February 2016 | Categories: newsApple doesn't do Mobile World Congress, and 2016 is no different. Instead of sharing stage time with other manufacturers in Barcelona, Spain later this month (22-25 Feb), the company has an event scheduled for 15 March. Although the exact venue is not known, that has not stopped the rumour mill from churning possible product debuts. Chief among them is a smaller iPhone, thought to be dubbed the iPhone 5se at this stage, along with a new iPad Air and possibly a preview of a second generation Apple Watch.
The aforementioned iPhone is said to measure 4" (diagonally), as well as house Apple's A9 chip at its core. It is also rumoured to feature the new 12 MP camera and live photos functionality. That appears to be the only changes though, as 9to5Mac says the iPhone 5se looks more like the iPhone 5 than its latest incarnation (6s).
The new iPad Air though, is an entirely revamped tablet as recent reports say it will integrate several business-focused elements seen in the iPad Pro. As far as the Apple watch goes, we will most likely see a new watchOS for the wearable, along with a range of new bands. Whether or not a new smartwatch is impending, is hard to confirm at this stage.
More details and clues will undoubtedly emerge when the official invites are sent out by Apple.
