TCL to unveil BlackBerry-branded Mercury phone on 25 February
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 25 January 2017 | Categories: newsCORRECTION: BlackBerry has brought it to TechSmart's attention that our story did not correctly reflect the nature of the relationship between BlackBerry and TCL. The article has been amended accordingly.
Under the banner of TCL (manufacturing partner), BlackBerry-branded devices have continued to focus on either ultra secure or QWERTY functionality. TCL had one such offering on display at CES 2017 last month, as the company gave a first glimpse at the 'Mercury'.
While a fully fledged unveiling did not take place at CES, TCL is readying one for Mobile World Congress, confirming via Twitter that an event is scheduled for 25 February, two days before MWC 17 gets underway.

Precisely where the Mercury fits in the BlackBerry-branded lineup is unknown, but the specs being detailed lead us to think of it in the upper mid-range market. Rumours suggest a Snapdragon 625 processor, 3 GB of RAM and a 18 MP camera on the rear. Added to this is the QWERTY keyboard, which will likely feature capacitive touch, akin to the BlackBerry PRIV.
Other features of the device will be confirmed in a month's time.
