Blizzard's Battle.net set for yet another rebranding
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 15 August 2017 | Categories: newsIn September last year, Blizzard made an announcement that earned the ire of its gaming fans, by stating that it would be changing the name of its Battle.net online platform. The reason behind the move was to give all the company's online services a similar sounding name, allowing them to fall under the Blizzard banner. That's all about to change though, or rather not change, with Blizzard doing an about turn and confirming in a recent blog post that the Battle.net name will be retained.
The word Blizzard will still feature, however, as the online platform will be known as Blizzard Battle.net from here on out. "Battle.net is the central nervous system for Blizzard games and the connective tissue that has brought Blizzard players together since 1996. The technology was never going away, but after giving the branding change further consideration and also hearing your feedback, we’re in agreement that the name should stay as well," noted the company in the official post.
While we don't have a horse in this race, it is pleasant to see Blizzard take on board the concerns and feedback of its loyal gaming community. With titles like Overwatch and World of Warcraft helping to solidify the publisher's reputation in the online multiplayer space, keeping fans happy is vitally important.
That said, it should be interesting to see if the newly proposed name gets a negative reception as well.
