As one of the top wildlife photographers in the country, Andrew Beck has a lot of awesome pics in his portfolio. He selects his best shot and talks about what went into capturing it.

TechSmart: What is your favourite personal photo and why? Is there a particular story behind the process that went into capturing it?

Andrew Beck: There are many moments and images which speak to me. One of these would be this image of a wildebeest breaking through a cloud of dust and leaping into the Mara River during one of the Great Migration Photo Safaris I hosted in 2015.

We spent pretty much an entire day waiting and watching a potential buildup of wildebeest. The team from camp brought breakfast and lunch to where we were sitting and keeping an eye on the herds as they moved up and down along the banks of the Mara River.

Eventually, at around 17:00 the first of two massive crossings broke. This image was captured at the second crossing where the large herds kicked up an incredible amount of dust making for a dramatic image which I think does justice to this wildlife spectacle.
