Canon Series: My Best Shot - Brendon Jennings
By Staff Writer 4 November 2015 | Categories: sponsored contentWith loads of hours clocked in the bush, wildlife photographer and guide Brendon Jennings has many of amazing images to boast with. For our Canon Series of articles, we asked him to pick his favourite and tell the story behind it.
Brendon Jennings: It's hard to choose a favourite image as I have been fortunate to have many unforgettable moments in nature. If pushed though I'd say my brown hooded kingfisher bathing picture is one I'll never be able to take again.
Seeing that they are bathing, their entry and exit points vary tremendously. The hide I was shooting from has a 1.5 m clear background so the bird had to enter centrally which they normally don't, added to the fact that I had restricted view which meant there was very little notice of its approach. Manual focus on a predetermined spot was essential as well.
The final image is truly a lesson in persistence for me and the pose as the kingfisher exited the water was beyond my dreams (it reminds me of a soccer player celebrating a goal!).
