Daimler jumps ahead of Tesla with electric truck prototype
By Staff Writer 27 October 2017 | Categories: newsIn the land of electric cars, Tesla is the manufacturer to beat. But when it comes to the nascent electric trucks industry, well, it still appears to be anyone’s game. Daimler AG though got a leg-up on its competition by unveiling the E-Fuso Vision One heavy-duty prototype. According to Daimler, this electric truck can manage 11 tons of cargo for a rather splendid 350 kilometres before needing to recharge.
Daimler believes the truck should be perfect for inner-city deliveries, noting that it could go on sale within four years in select markets. Four years is quite the waiting period, but at least it shows Daimler’s intention to go after this market.
That said, Tesla has an electric truck reveal date scheduled for 16 November, with Business Insider noting that it might have a range of 482 km, and that delivery of the truck could begin as soon as 2020.
The E-Fuso Vision One truck is part of a larger commitment by Daimler and the FUSO brand towards the complete electrification of its products, with all truck and bus models to include an additional electric powertrain alternative in coming years.
