At a media event in Sandton last night, Epson showcased four of its newest projectors, all of which sport 3LCD technology and are designed for gaming and home cinema enthusiasts.

Of the four models on display, the EH-TW9300 is the flagship offering and comes with an equally impressive R46 250 recommended price tag. This model is one of the first in the world to sport 3LCD as well as support of 4K content, according to Epson. Added to this is HDR compatibility, which is sure to get prospective Xbox One S owners interested. While Epson has not had the chance to test the 4K-supporting PS4 Pro, when we chatted to them last night, they assured that it would work with Sony's latest console.

It may be primed for use as a gaming projector, but the TW9300 is best suited for an home cinema setup, with this model boasting a 1 000 000 (million): 1 contrast ratio and fully motorised mechanisms for zoom, focus and lens shift. Furthermore, the TW9300's lamp will last an estimated 5000 hours before a new one is required, which is a movie every day for the next seven years in case you were wondering.

As for the mid-range models, Epson has the EH-TW6700 and EH-TW7300 which are set to cost R27 775 and R36 435 respectively. The latter is the larger of the two, and also touts 4K functionality, along with HDR support and a seven year estimated lifespan on its lamp. The only significant difference between the TW7300 and the TW9300 is the contrast ratio. The slightly smaller TW6700 is not worth overlooking, however, and features built-in speakers and Full HD (1080p) image quality. Added to this is a 70 000:1 contrast ratio and the ability to display 2D and 3D content.

Last is the EB-U04, which has already been in the country for six months, offering  an all-round projector at R14 900. It too is Full HD and is best served for use in a smaller environment. That said, it can project an image as large as 300" (diagonally) and features a connection to share content via one's mobile device, a notable option for those that enjoy streaming from the likes of ShowMax, Epson points out.
