Gaming News Round-up - The Something Slithers Closer Edition
By Ryan Noik 17 January 2014 | Categories: newsThe Last of Us DLC is dated
The wait for the anticipated single player downloadable content (DLC) for the superlative The Last of Us (review) is nearly at an end. Apparently, the DLC, entitled Left Behind, will be a Valentine Day present to The Last of Us fans, becoming available to download on the 14th of February.
The DLC will explore more of Ellie’s story, that is, before she met up with Joel. Even so, Ellie won’t be alone, as the DLC will introduce her post-endemic best friend Riley. Indications are that the DLC will be a bit more light-hearted or playful in tone as compared with the main campaign. The DLC will also carry on the story from The Last of Us: American Dreams comic series, and given the strength of the main game, will more than likely echo its strong storytelling heritage.
Previously, the studio has teased that Left Behind will hold “a few surprises” of its own. A little more than a month remains before we find out exactly what they are referring to. In the meantime, here’s a refresh of the announcement trailer in case this DLC slipped off your radar.
New Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 screens crawl out of the crypt
With just six weeks of waiting left before Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 bares its teeth and sinks its fangs into our leisure time, Konami have kept the anticipation up, this time by releasing new screenshots for the forthcoming sequel.
The new screenshots on offer highlight the modern day city into which Dracula emerges when he awakes, as well as the castle where Dracula must reclaim his lost powers. Also hinted at are some of the game’s major adversaries. In case seeing Dracula square off against Satan wasn’t enough of a motivating factor to pick up the game, another image shows the dragon transformation which Dracula will need in order to defeat the prince of darkness.
Turtle Rock Studios unveils plans to Evolve
Turtle Rock Studios, the studio behind Left 4 Dead, has confirmed its next project. Entitled Evolve, the game will apparently be a sci-fi multiplayer first person shooter in which four alien hunters will have to pit their wits and trigger fingers against an evolving monster.
According to Game Informer, the title will be exclusively on next gen consoles (the PS4 and Xbox One) as well as on PC. Furthermore, much like we saw in last year’s Fuse, each hunter will boast his or her own unique abilities.
Alien: Isolation confirmed
Also confirmed and coming is Alien: Isolation, presumably because someone had to do a Ripley and resurrect the Aliens franchise after the disappointment that was Aliens: Colonial Marines. The good news is that apparently the two games are worlds apart. Alien: Isolation will take its cues from the very first Alien movie, only this time, it will be Ripley’s daughter, Amanda running, hiding, and presumably at some point, fighting, for her life.
The premise of the game is that following the events on the Nostromo, Amanda goes in search of answers to her mother’s fate after a flight recorder from the ill fated ship is recovered. Apparently though, Alien: Isolation will play far more as a survival-horror title with stealth elements (expect massive amounts of tension) nor, thankfully, will it be encumbered by multiplayer.
The game will be slithering its way to the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC later this year. For now though, feel free to turn down the lights, draw your curtains and hit the video below tonight to see if this game makes your must-get list.
IO Interactive shoots from the hip about next Hitman game
It’s not often that we get letters anymore, since email has largely killed off that practice. However, IO Interactive has penned an open letter to the fans of the Hitman franchise, detailing the next game for the bald and deadly one.
According to the letter, the next AAA Hitman game for PC and next-gen consoles is apparently in the works and will showcase a globetrotting Agent 47 in his prime. The developers continued that they have “adopted an open, non-linear level design approach to the game, ensuring the game will play out across huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels.”
The game will also apparently focus on the core Hitman dynamic of “using a wide range of tools to take out a diverse group of targets across expansive, exotic locations around the world.”
In the letter, (you can read the full missive here) the team also promises that more about the game will be revealed during the course of the year, reassuring that “there are so many things we have planned and we are extremely excited for the future of Hitman.”
That is all well and good, our question though is will this entry be a hit?
