The VIRB Ultra 30 is the latest action camera from Garmin, sporting a waterproof design and 4K recording capabilities, and is now available in South Africa.

There are a number of new action cameras entering the local market, but one aiming to immediately grab your attention is the VIRB Ultra 30 from Garmin, packing a number of features that should tempt avid action camera users. Firstly, it utilises a waterproof casing that makes it good for up to 40 metres of underwater use. Next is the ability to shoot 4K at 30 fps, as well as a self-stabilising recording mechanism should your hand prove a little shaky when pulling off stunts.

Added to this is built-in GPS, which works with a few other sensors to track distance, altitude and speed while recording. Furthermore, the VIRB Ultra 30 boasts voice-activated control (English only) to stop and start recording, as well as a 1.75" LCD screen on the back to scroll through different shooting options and set up recording before you start rolling.

Other recording options include 720p slow-mo at 240 fps, along with the ability to capture 12 MP still images too. Furthermore, the VURB Ultra works with a Garmin-designed app for compatible mobile devices, allowing users to control it remotely if needed.

All this will cost a recommended R7 999, including the waterproof case, at selected retailers across the country. To see more of what the VIRB Ultra 30 is packing, hit play on the video below.
