Geralt is coming to the movies, as Witcher film gets slated for 2017
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 6 November 2015 | Categories: newsEveryone's favourite Witcher, Geralt, is reportedly making his arrival on the big screen come 2017. According to IGN, the same production company behind The Mummy franchise, Sean Daniel Company, is aiming to bring the film to fruition with the help of Polish film house Platige Image.
Platige Image also says the film already has its director, with Oscar nominated Tomasz Bagiński (The Cathedral) signed on. The script is said to focus on elements of both the game franchise and novels, with short stories The Witcher and Lesser Evil being cited as source material. As such, the film will most likely deal with Geralt's origin, and how he became the "butcher of Blaviken."
While some of the finer details are still a mystery, such as who will play the title character, the film is slated for production late next year, and tentatively scheduled for release in 2017, most likely fourth quarter as well.
