The films of Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy) are favourites around the TechSmart office. Not only are they distinct in their look and feel, but del Toro, like us, is a geek at heart. The Mexican director has a new project in the works, after wrapping up the Gothic romance/horror Crimson Peak late last year.

He took to Twitter to announce work on adapting one of his favourite childhood books, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. At the moment, Deadline is reporting that del Toro is set to produce the film, with rumours also circulating that he might even direct it, which we are definitely in favour of.

For those unfamiliar with the trilogy of Alvin Schwartz-written books will be intrigued to find out that they were the most banned in public libraries by the American Library Association, according to The Verge. Apart from being terrifying stories in their own right, the books were accompanied by a series of eerily haunting images drawn by Stephen Gammell.

As far as when this project will go into full swing, the details remain murky, as del Toro is most likely choosing which one of the stories will be adapted into a screenplay.
