The Hisense range of smartphones has always provided good value for money devices. Their top of the range units might not reach the lofty heights of Samsung or Huawei’s flagships, but are usually decently priced. It seems true now too for the company’s latest, the Hisense Infinity H30, launched yesterday at an event in Johannesburg. Priced at R6 500 (or below depending where you look), the H30 offers a few interesting features.

Firstly, this 6.5” device includes an impressive 4530 mAh battery which should last you a day and a bit depending on usage. It’s powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P70 AI chipset, which after a few hours of in hand, the phone seems quick enough, scoring 143 736 on Antutu Benchmark. 4 GB of RAM can be found under the hood, with a decent 128 GB of storage space, expandable via microSD.

Hisense notes a screen-to-body ratio of 83.3%, with a decent 2160×1080 pixels present, slightly obscured by the waterdrop notch at the top of the screen. Android P does the operating, with Hisense UI thrown on top. A fingerprint scanner appears on the back of the unit.

Onboard is a dual-camera setup at the back, with a 20MP and 2MP camera doing duty. Hisense notes the camera is AI powered, and can identify 16 different scenarios, adapting exposure and colour for each. For selfies you have a 20 MP unit with a f2.0 aperture, with beauty shot allowing for those no-frown-line selfies.

Here’s an added extra that might clinch it for you – there’s a free screen replacement in the first 12 months of purchase. This might actually save you a bit of bucks if you, like us, have a tendency to drop your smartphone quite a bit.

As with many other manufacturers, Hisense also provides a lesser specced version of its flagship, in this case the H30 Lite. This model has a 6.1” (720*1500) waterdrop display but also features a dual rear camera with AI Scene Recognition and a 3000 mAh battery with AI power saving. It’s stocked with 3 GB worth of RAM and 32 GB of storage space, starting at R3 000.

Both models come in two stylish colour designs, Ice Blue and Violet Ocean and should be in shops or cellular providers right now.
