Hot Trailers for the Week: 26 May
By Thomas McKinnon 26 May 2017 | Categories: newsWith the new trailer for Game of Thrones Season 7 stealing all the attention, here are the other trailers you might have missed this week.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets Trailer 3
Release date: 21 July (ZA)
It’s going to be great to see what French flair Luc Besson is going to bestow on us with Valerian, 20 years after the blessing that was The Fifth Element. So far there’s no reason to doubt that Valerian might just be Sci-Fi movie of the year, give or take a little flick called Star Wars later in the year.
Best bit: The whole trailer is a treat but specifically when Valerian (Dane DeHaan) goes all Juggernaut on us at 0:57.
Castlevania Teaser
Release date: 7 July
Anime based on the original video gaming series? What can be better one would think. A teaser for this Netflix original has now been released and, well, it shows at least a bit of action. With four episodes set to entertain, the proof will most surely be in the pudding.
Best bit: 0:42 when we actually get to see what’s happening
My Name is Lenny
Release date: 9 June (UK)
We could say that My Name is Lenny looks like it might pack a punch, but that would leave us down for the count. Instead, watch the trailer below for some insight into the world of bareknuckle boxing and the role that the Guv'nor (Josh Helman, X-Men: Apocalypse) played in it.
Best bit: Trying to figure out what the Guv is saying.
Battle of the Sexes
Release date: 22 Sept (US)
Emma Stone as tennis great Billie-Jean King. Steve Carell as major chancer Bobby Riggs. There is certainly a lot to love already. But it gets better, since Battle of the Sexes is directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, responsible for Little Miss Sunshine and the underrated Ruby Sparks. Don’t know what the fuss about that tennis game was about? Check the news report below to check out the original role-players.
Best bit: Seeing Stone as King on the tennis court for the first time at 0:41.
Wish Upon
Release date: 14 July
One for all the horror fans, Wish Upon asks the question, what if you could actually wish for anything? Poor Claire (Joey King, The Conjuring) realises too late that there is nothing like a free lunch, with the little box that is granting all her wishes being possessed by a demon demanding a “blood price” to be paid. P.S. We also get to find out what happened to Barb from Stranger Things.
Best bit: Wilhelm scream at 0:40.
The Hitman's Bodyguard Trailer 3
Release date: 18 August
Is this the ‘buddy cop’ team-up that we we’ve been waiting for? With so-hot-right-now Ryan Reynolds working alongside Samuel L. Jackson in The Hitman's Bodyguard, it looks like we might be in for a treat. Trailer three gives us more background to how they end up together, while it also showcases Withnail, who seems to have survived winter and has taken a job as a banker.
Best bit: Singing on the bus at 1:12.
