Huawei was never going to debut a new flagship phone at MWC 2018, with the Chinese company opting to reserve the reveal of the upcoming P20 for 27 March in Paris. So what devices did they bring to Barcelona?

Well a new notebook and two tablets. The formers is the MateBook X Pro, and the MediaPad M5 and MediaPad M5 Pro completing the trio of new devices on show.

MateBook X Pro

Dealing with the notebook first, the MateBook X Pro is one of Huawei's top offerings to date, with a lot of attention paid to the display and thinness of its design. In that regard the X Pro features a 13.9" screen with a 91% display to body ratio. Add to that a 3000x2000 resolution, touch interface and 450 nits maximum brightness.

Internally, Intel is doing the heavy lifting with a choice of either their 8th Gen Core i5 (8250U) or i7 (8550U). Other options include 8 GB or 16 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and SSDs of 256 GB and 512 GB in size. Another addition is a fingerprint sensor which can also double to boot up or power down the device. There is no mention though, of whether it will facilitate other biometric applications.     

MediaPad M5 and M5 Pro

Moving onto the tablets, which were not wholly expected to be honest. Huawei has two variants of the M5 model on offer. The standard version is a 10.8" Android (8.0 Oreo) tablet with 2560x1600 resolution. Powering the device is Kirin's 960 chipset, with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB or 64 GB of internal storage depending on the model. The Pro model is pretty much the same in terms of internal specifications, with the addition of an M-Pen stylus for illustrating and scribing being the difference.

At this stage it's unclear when all three devices will land locally, or indeed for how much, but they will hit first wave countries in coming months.
