Insomniac Games’ GDC video releasedBy Ryan Noik 28 June 2018 | Categories: news
The latest video from Insomniac Games’ session at Game Developers Conference (GDC) has been released, with studio veterans Brian Allgeier and TJ Fixman specifically discussing the fifteen years of one of its popular franchises, Ratchet and Clank.
Even if you have never played the games, or have no intention on doing so, the hour long session offered a wealth of insight not just into how games are made and developed, but into the creative process as well.
This is particularly true for those who are involved in storytelling of whatever kind, with the Allgeier and Fixman specifically discussing how to balance characterisation, world building, interactivity and other elements that makes a franchise stand the test of time. Since it is Insomniac Games, the session is sprinkled with humour and a couple of cheeky (adults only) double entendres.
Particularly interesting though, is the role iterating, making mistakes, getting to grips with new technologies and taking risks played in the studio’s success. If you are game developer – or planning to pursue becoming one, consider this a highly recommended watch.
