When we met 21 year old Lara Croft in the rebooted Tomb Raider in 2013, we saw a young inexperienced archeologist thrust headlong into a fight for survival. The game pulled no punches in stressing her vulnerability and naivete in the face of adversity.

In the latest footage to come from Microsoft and Crystal Dynamics, Lara is, to put a word or two to it, an absolute badass.

The newest footage shows Lara sneaking around a camp populated by goons with a deftness that would make Sam Fisher proud, swimming underwater to suddenly emerge and drag a hapless brute down to his watery demise.

Moments later, she impresses with her new ability to execute aerial takedowns as well as her mastery of weaponry as well, skewering two foes with arrows through the eyes simultaneously, and slitting throats with merciless efficiency.

There is no doubt about it, Lara has developed markedly in the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider, morphing into a force to be reckoned with.

Along with a more battle-hardened Lara, apparently the game will boast a world three times larger than its predecessor, and yes, more actual tombs to raid. The latest trailer serves another purpose, one that we suspect Microsoft has counted on – it may well compel non Xbox One owners to buy the console, even if just for this, especially as the trailer below makes one year seem like a considerably longer time to wait for it to arrive on the PS4.
