At work, or on your PC, Skype has proved to be a very handy instant messaging tool. The company however, wants a bigger chunk of the mobile pie, and today rolled out an Android update (6.1.1) to help in that department. The update focuses on four main aspects, conversation management, advanced search, enhanced sharing and saving video messages.

Cycling through them all, users now have a bit more functionality in the Recent tab of conversations. If they long tap on a contact, it will bring up a new toolbar with options to delete, mark as read or mute notifications. Added to this, is the ability to search for specific content within conversations themselves, akin to what is already available on the PC version of Skype.

Furthermore, Skype has integrated the ability to share photos with a group, with the option to also take existing photos or files in group chats and share them with other groups or contacts. The last noteworthy feature has been a long time coming, as Skype has introduced the option to save video messages, which will then be stored in your Android phone's photo gallery.

Skype has already begun rolling out this update worldwide, and users can access it via the Google Play Store
