Ster Kinekor Entertainment (SKE) has announced some good news for those who have been patiently waiting for new stock of the PS4 (review) to arrive – an additional shipment of its next generation consoles has graced our shores.

This comes just in time for the impending launch of inFamous: Second Son, one of the more highly anticipated exclusives powering its way into the PS4 lineup this year.

Furthermore, SKE assured general users that “a consistent flow of consoles can be expected moving forward.” Also detailed was the new price point for the console. Considering that the rand-dollar exchange apparently decided to imitate Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed 4 and take a swan dive off the nearest steeple, the increases across the board aren’t as bad as we thought they may be.

Ready your wallets

The pricing for the PS4 on its own is now R6 800 (up from R 6 500), while a DualShock 4 and DualShock 4 charging station come in at R1 000 and R400 respectively. The PS4 camera is similarly R1 000, while the cost of a stand for the console will cost R400. The accessories will apparently also be available from retailers as of this week.

“It’s been a challenging few months liaising with our global teams to ensure that the South African PlayStation 4 console demands have been met to satisfactory levels. As expected the team has been working hard with our international colleagues to ensure that the inflow of units will be regulated and remain consist for the foreseeable future,” commented Mario Dos Santos, chief executive officer of Ster Kinekor Entertainment.

Take aim, and fire at will

For Sony and SKE, the timing to make more PS4 units available locally is impeccable, particularly as Xbox 360 gamers received the shocking news last week that one of its most highly anticipated exclusives, Titanfall, would not be made available locally.

Will this drive players who were holding out for the Xbox One and Titanfall into the waiting and ready arms of the PS4 and its exclusives, which aren’t snubbing SA? Well, we shall see. If it does, we are naming it now: consolation gaming.
