Newly leaked MacBook Pro images show off OLED bar and Touch ID
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 26 October 2016 | Categories: newsTomorrow (27 October) is Apple's highly anticipated MacBook Pro-focused event. Unfortunately, as has become the case for most consumer tech events in recent years, the products have already been detailed in part thanks to some leaked images. This one comes from MacRumors, so its authenticity is well founded.
The leaked images confirm several reports of the past few months that the MacBook will be receiving a significant design overhaul. In particular, this sees the integration of a new OLED touch bar just above the keyboard. Said touch bar will be referred to as the Magic Toolbar, according to MacRumors.
The Toolbar presents information to MacBook users and changes depending on the applications. When in the iTunes store for example, users will receive a notification to authenticate purchases via Touch ID. Thereafter, one's registered fingerprint must be placed on the far right hand side of the Toolbar to scan the print and authorise the purchase.
This, of course brings us to another new feature, Touch ID, which, according to MacRumors will now be present in 2016/17 MacBook Pros. Apart from signing into your iCloud profile, logging into the notebook and facilitating purchases, the Touch ID will also serve as the power button for the new range of notebooks.
While the cat might be out the bag as far as the Toolbar and Touch ID goes, hopefully tomorrow evening's event will feature more new integrations. We'll be live tweeting the event, so remember to follow us at @TechSmartMag tomorrow from 19:00 (SAST).
