In September this year, HMD Global announced a 3G compatible version of the new Nokia 3310. At the time, the device was slated for a mid-October release, but a proper sighting of it was yet to be made. That's changed, however, with the 3G Nokia 3310 making its way Stateside for $60 (R824).

The confirmation comes via The Verge, which spotted the device on Best Buy for $59.99. For now it's unclear where else HMD Global, which owns the license to manufacture Nokia Mobile phones, will release the new 3G compatible iteration of the 3310. Given how popular its return has proved locally, bringing it to our shores makes a lot of sense.

If HMD Global does launch it in South Africa, the 3G 3310 touts all the same features as the first version, safe for the improved broadband connectivity. To that end, HMD Global says it can muster up to 6.5 hours talktime on 3G, with 27 hours of standby time.

Is the 3G integration a game-changer? Not really in our books, but the new Nokia 3310 is more about nostalgia than anything else, and can serve as a handy back-up phone.
