With Instagram recently crossing the one billion user mark, it’s safe to say there are a lot of people checking out photos. For those that can’t get enough, scrolling, scrolling and scrolling, there’s a bit of hope in the form of a little post that will pop up ever so often.

It reads “You’re All Caught Up”, meaning that you’ve now seen every post of the last two days. On a blog post, Instagram mentions they have done this so that “you’ll have a better understanding of your Feed and know you haven’t missed recent photos or videos”.

With the Instagram algorithm making it difficult to follow a linear time frame, such a feature comes in handy for making sure you’ve viewed all posts, but also to stop mindless scrolling.

At the same time TechCrunch notes that both Facebook and Instagram are testing a Do Not Disturb feature. This will allow users to stop notifications from these apps for either 30 minutes, one hour, two hours, eight hours or a day. It can also be set so that all notification will be blocked until manually turned on again. For those addicted for that little dopamine hit when seeing or hearing notifications, this might just be the thing needed to break the habit. Or not, most probably.  

While these features are slowly making hay on Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s commitment to “time well spent” on his social media platforms, it still doesn’t address the issue that Facebook was playing fast and loose with user data. When updates from Zuckerberg will be forthcoming in this regard remains to be seen.
