South African smartphone users are blessed with two new manufacturers entering the market – OPPO and Xiaomi (again). Chinese manufacturer OPPO has made their move, with the OPPO A72 smartphone appearing 7 October locally.

The OPPO A72 experience begins with a high resolution 6.5-inch display that covers over 90% of the front, uninterrupted by any unsightly intrusions. This viewing experience is kind on your eyes with TÜV Rheinland-certified Eye Care Protection that can automatically adjust screen brightness and reduce the amount of harmful blue light to suit the environment.

It continues as the screen melts into the frame and you journey around to the stunning back of the phone in its distinctive Twilight Black or Aurora Purple colour finish. This is where you find the cameras at the back. The 48MP main camera applies our bespoke AI to the large ½-inch sensor, tucked behind a pin sharp lens and the wide-open f/1.7 aperture maximises the amount of light the camera can take in. OPPO notes the bespoke AI tuning then amplifies your image to deliver the best picture possible. The quad camera array is completed by a 119° ultra-wide angle lens and two unique portrait-style lenses.

Onboard the OPPO A72 is Ultra Clear Night Mode 2.0 which further enhances the dynamic range of the photo to balance out the bright and dark areas to create a perfect exposure. This handset also supports Video Anti-Shake – the company’s best stabilisation yet – Wide-Angle video, 4K recording and 120 frames per second slow motion.

The OPPO A72 smartphone harnesses the might of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600-series processor by using a Hyper Boost performance engine to unlock the full potential of this system on chip (SoC), offering meaningful increases in the speed of apps and games, so that the system always runs smoothly even in the unlikely situation where you reach the limits of the 4 GB LPDDR4x memory or call on the full read and write speeds of the 128 GB UFS 2.1 storage.

A generous 5000 mAh battery with 18 W fast charge guarantees that you’ll spend more time enjoying that power and less time plugged into a charger. The super-linear Dual Stereo Speakers support Hi-Res Audio enhanced with Dirac 2.0 which automatically detects the type of audio to give you a fully immersive experience.

Running the system is ColorOS, as provided by OPPO over the Android 10 and a full suite of Google services. They added Eye Care Mode to the system-wide dark mode, and a Smart Sidebar to have your most used apps just a swipe away with a quick gesture to go into split screen so you don’t miss any of the action.

Priced at R6 999.00, the OPPO A72 in Aurora Purple and Twilight Black will be on sale from major retailers on 7 October 2020.
