Opel Astra sedan hits SA roads in October
By Hanleigh Daniels 26 August 2013 | Categories: newsGeneral Motors (GM) has revealed that it will be expanding its Opel Astra range during October, with the local launch of the Opel Astra sedan range.
The four-door Astra sedan series will complement the existing range of Astra hatchbacks, offering buyers the same eye-catching design of the hatchback, but with added practicality of additional bootspace (460 litres vs 90 litres of luggage space in the hatchback).
This four-model strong sedan range comprises of the new Astra sedan 1.6 Essentia (85 kW and 155 Nm of torque), 1.4 Turbo Essentia (103 kW and 200 Nm), 1.4 Turbo Essentia Automatic, as well as the range-topping 1.6 Turbo Cosmo (132 kW and 266 Nm).
The addition of a boot which boosts the lugguage capacity from around 90 litres to about 460 litres has not taken away from the aestetic appeal of the Astra's design.
GM stated that pricing details will be made available at launch time in October, when the Astra sedan will look to put many potential Toyota Corolla- and Ford Focus sedan buyers on a detour to their nearests Opel dealership.
Christopher Cradock, Opel Brand Manager at GMSA said: “The secret is out and there is a lot of excitement at Opel for the new Astra sedan, which will be launched in South Africa in October. The new Astra sedan follows the high standards forged by the hatchback and we expect a warm reception by South Africans, who tend to favour sedans.”
