Ever thought, if only I could edit this photo using my voice? While it might not be the most common requirement you have of your image editing software yet, the use of voice-based personal assistants to interact with technology is growing. For Adobe this means readying their software for future requirements, and in a new video the company explores how this might work.

On its YouTube page, Adobe explains their speech recognition system is able to accept input either locally (through on-device computing) or through a cloud-based “Natural Language understanding service”. The company goes on to state, “This is a first step towards a robust multimodal voice-based interface which allows our creative customers to search and edit images in an easy and engaging way using Adobe mobile applications."

The video, being about 30 seconds long, certainly doesn’t show much of the workflow involved in getting a photo perfect, and to be honest, we simply cannot imagine how you are going to find your way through all the different tools and drop-down menu options in Photoshop and Lightroom using only your voice. Having said that, and as Adobe kindly noted, this could be aimed more towards their mobile apps.

Nonetheless, it does seem like an interesting extra to explore in the near future, since our current ways of interacting with technology – through keypad and mouse – could become outdated and cumbersome sooner than we think.
