At their Paris-based press conference in March, Huawei debuted three new mobile devices. Two of them, the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro, have since been launched in South Africa, and now the third offering has hit our shores. The Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS was unveiled to a gathering of local media yesterday at Huawei's Johannesburg offices, with the company billing the device as "the future of luxury".

Set to retail for a recommended R26 499 for the 256 GB (black) model, the Mate RS certainly carries a luxurious price tag. The device will also be exclusively sold through MTN, and according to Huawei, only 1000 units are being brought into the country, which means stock will be relatively limited. Huawei will also have experience zones setup for the Mate RS at its two standalone stores, but all purchases of the device can only happen via MTN.

As for what this device will be packing, internally many of the specifications match the Huawei P20 Pro, with a Kirin 970 chipset present, and triple Leica-certified camera setup on the rear. What sets this phone apart from the latest P-series variants are a few design changes.

The Porsche Design logo is present on the back, with the primary lenses shifting from the left hand corner to the centre of the device. Added to this is a rear fingerprint sensor akin to the Mate 10 Pro, along with an additional sensor embedded into the 6" OLED bezel-less display.

With Huawei claiming that their previous Porsche Design phone, the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 10, sold well, it should prove interesting to see if the latest offering can do the same.
