Puma pushes trail running gear with new SEASONS apparel collection
By Staff Writer 6 September 2022 | Categories: newsWe enjoyed last year’s Voyage Nitro trail running shoe (review), which was Puma’s effort in taking its Nitro foam off road. Now Puma seems to be committing a lot more to trail running, launching a new outdoor footwear and apparel collection called SEASONS.
Puma notes this has been created to protect against the elements by using functional, performance materials in its multi-terrain trail footwear, and Sympatex - a three-layer waterproof, windproof, and breathable fabric made from 100% recycled material - in the Stormcell Jacket.
The collection features new additions to PUMA’s trail running footwear offering with a new, lightweight trail shoe in Fast-Trac NITRO and an updated Voyage NITRO 2.
The SEASONS collection available in South Africa includes:
FAST-TRAC NITRO
Puma believes the Fast-Trac Nitro is equally capable on trial, gravel, and mixed terrain, with this shoe having a dual-foam midsole. This consists of a full-length Nitro top-layer embedded in the ProFoamLite midsole. On the outsole you will find PUMAGRIP ATR, a more durable version of the rather excellent PUMAGRIP rubber, to give grip in mud or rocky terrain.
Puma Fast-Trac Nitro (women's)
Puma states this is a lightweight trail-running shoe with the upper coming with a nice pattern showing off impressive detailing and material strength. The integrated eyestay pulls snug to the foot for a secure fit, and further detailing gives it a solid outdoor vibe. A padded tongue and collar provide comfort, while the toe offers both drainage and some protection from debris. There’s an 8mm drop, and Puma believes this is a shoe best for neutral pronators.
Fast-Trac Nitro is available in both men’s and women’s sizes, for R 2599 each.
VOYAGE NITRO 2
If you are looking for a max cushion trail shoe “delivering an all-terrain solution with comfort and dynamic styling for all runners,” then the Voyage NITRO 2 is it.
Like the Fast-Track Nitro, this shoe also has a two-part midsole, with Nitro foam under-foot for cushioning and responsiveness, combined with ProFoamLite layer for midfoot support. Puma states to help lateral support, an innovative midfoot shape is flared laterally (instead of cut-in or waisted), to give improved ankle support on uncertain terrain.
With Pumagrip ATR on the outsole, you should have multi-surface traction, with this designed for trail and all-terrain. The Voyage sheds water like a champ thanks to forefoot drain ports, and keeps debris out thanks to an innovative heel mud-guard, according to Puma. This is not the Gore-tex version.
Voyage NITRO 2 men’s and women’s available for R 2 999 each.
SEASONS RainCELL Jacket
With an elevated water-repellent outer layer, the Seasons rainCELL Jacket features an adjustable hood with visor and bungee collar for wet weather protection, Puma states. There is also an extended cuff with hook and loop closure offers additional coverage and a secure fit. Internal seam sealing in key areas acts as an extra barrier so you can power through, whatever the forecast. Two bonded zip-front pockets provide convenient dry storage for everything - from your phone to fuel.
It's not a cheap jacket, with the Seasons Raincell Jacket men’s going for R5 999 and women’s for R4 999.
SEASONS RainCELL Pant
Featuring stretch material, the Seasons rainCELL Pant provides water-repellent coverage without restriction, notes Puma. Reinforced articulated knees further the ease of movement and add durability, while an elastic back waistband with belt loops and full zip fly with hook and loop closure ensure a stay-put fit. The gusseted zipper ankle offers enhanced shoe coverage, and two bonded zip front pockets are ideal for stashing essentials.
The Seasons Raincell Pant men’s will set you back R3 499 and the women’s R2 999.
PUMA’s SEASONS Footwear Collection is available from 2 September 2022, on PUMA.com and PUMA Stores. The SEASONS Apparel Collection will be available from 1 October 2022, on PUMA.com and PUMA Stores.
