Over the past few years, Samsung has used Mobile World Congress as a platform to launch its latest Galaxy S flagship. That will not be the case in 2017 though, with Samsung Mobile's head DJ Koh confirming to Reuters that the company will be debuting the Galaxy S8 in Barcelona next month.

Unfortunately Koh did not explain why Samsung was opting to forego its usual launch, or indeed what device will be showcased at MWC 17. A possible reason could be Samsung's desire to not rush the Galaxy S8's release, which was cited as a contributing factor in the recent exploding batteries of the Galaxy Note 7.

As for when we will actually see the Galaxy S8, The Verge believes an April launch is most likely.
