Samsung puts an end to Galaxy Note 7 sales worldwide
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 11 October 2016 | Categories: newsYesterday, it was reported that Samsung would suspend production of the Galaxy Note 7 due to concerns raised by regulators about battery issues for the company's second batch of phablets. Now, the South Korean manufacturer has opted to end all sales of the device completely, confirming so in a recent blog post.
"We are working with relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note 7. Because consumers’ safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note 7 while the investigation is taking place," said the company in an official statement.
Samsung has also urged all current Galaxy Note 7 owners, whether they be from the first or second batch of devices, to return their devices to the company's retail partners. Furthermore, Samsung has said that Note 7 users should power down the devices and stop using them altogether.
As far as its local release, we have reached out to Samsung South Africa, with no feedback as of yet. That said, the device will most likely never head to our shores in any official capacity. How Samsung will bounce back from this remains to be seen, especially with Mobile World Congress 2017 only a few months aways.
