Having heeded the calls from consumers and media alike, Samsung has gone to great lengths to improve the design and quality of materials for its smartphones, not just for its flagship devices, but across the board. Now, the South Korean manufacturer is turning its attention to tablets, and has just debuted two new offerings in the form of the Galaxy Tab S2, in 9.7" and 8" variants respectively.

Big Expectations

Along with being one of Samsung's most powerful tablets to date, the Galaxy Tab S2 also sports the thinnest dimensions that the South Korean manufacturer has mustered for a tablet to date, measuring 5.6 mm thin for both the 9.7" and 8" Tab S2.

Although the Tab S2's debut has only been a press release to date, it has already garnered the expectation of being Samsung's answer to the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3. As for whether it can live up to such a billing, we'll have to wait till it arrives locally, but the specs sheets for both devices look promising.

Two Of A Kind

Part of the promise, lies in the fact that both devices feature identical specifications and components, with the obvious exception being the screen size. Internally for example, both the 9.7" and 8" Galaxy S2 Tab feature 3 GB of RAM, and will be available in either 32 GB or 64 GB onboard storage options, with a microSD for up to 128 GB. Added to this, is a split octa-core setup, with an Exynos 1.9 GHz quad-core and 1.3 GHz quad-core chipset being favoured. In terms of optics, the rear will house an 8 MP camera, with a 2.1 MP option found up front.

Moving onto the screens, the 9.7" Tab S2 has a Super Amoled QXGA rating, touting a high 2048x1536 resolution. For the 8" flavour, Samsung has it listed with the same display technology and the exact same 2048x1536 resolution. The only other difference between the two, sees the 9.7" option utilise a 5870 mAh battery, and 8" Tab S2, a 4000 mAh one.  

For now, neither device has been detailed in terms of their local availability or pricing, but Samsung Tomorrow says it will begin rolling out globally in August this year.
