Samsung has big plans for TVs in 2017. At CES, we first glimpsed their new QLED TV and The Frame concept, and we got an even closer look at the former at the Samsung Africa Forum recently. The South Korean manufacturer has now showcased all the elements it plans to introduce during the year, at a launch event in Paris last night.

According to Samsung, utilising metal quantum dot material in the display gives their QLED TVs improved picture quality, viewing angles and a wider colour spectrum.

Brightness and contrast are also significantly enhanced, with Samsung claiming a 100% colour volume, the best currently available on the market. There's also HDR (High Dynamic Range) 1500 functionality on the entire 2017 QLED range, which carries the advantage of eliminating any colour distortion while viewing.

The other big draw at last night's event was The Frame, a concept initially shown at CES that's designed to function both as a high quality television, but also a digital artpiece, according to Samsung. Handling the latter is an Art Mode, which allows owners to select from up to 100 pieces of art to display on The Frame when not being used for watching content. It also comes with interchangeable bezels, as well as an 'invisible' connection and no gap wall mount.

The new range of QLED TVs are set to land in South Africa in mid-May, and will be available in the 65", 75" and 88" sizes, carrying with them R65 000, R140 000 and R400 000 recommended price tags accordingly. At this stage, it's unknown if The frame will be arriving locally too, but we should get a clearer picture when 2017 QLED TVs are launched in a couple of months.
