If you have a spare million rand lying round – or at least R999 995 – and you *really* love watching TV - then there is a new 8K QLED TV just unveiled that may have your name on it. Last night, Samsung unveiled its largest 8K TV to date, which is likely to join the likes of Ferrari, yacht or private jet of your own on your list of aspirational gear.

Even if it is just something you ogle and let your eyes salivate over, the 98” is a sight to behold. It’s not just its size that impresses, but the colour rendition, clarity and detail. It also begs the question: just how much more resolution can a screen possibly offer?

While you may think the price puts it out of reach for all, apparently that’s not the case, with five units apparently snapped up on pre-order by some very well heeled individuals out there.

What was interesting though is that the progress being made on the 8K TV appears to be pushing the prices of 4K and other sets down, with some of the older technology sets having a far more attainable price tag of R8995 for a 58” 4K smart TV (down from R12 000), and a 55” curved screen premium UHD set going for R12 000 (down from R17 000).

Of course if you want to spend more for larger, QLED sets you can – those go from around the R20 000 mark on up to the newest jaw dropping entry. In the meantime, you can feast your  eyes below.
