American Gods, Good Omens and now this. Neil Gaiman fans are indeed living in a time of oppulant blessings. Variety has reported that a television series based on Gaiman’s 1989 iconic The Sandman comic is going to see the light of day, and it’s Netflix putting in the order. Generally considered as unfilmable, due to the nature of the story and its settings, we of course live in the Trump timeline, so anything is possible.

Gaiman’s classic features Morpheus, also known as Dream, who we first encounter as a captured entity, hold hostage by an evil occultist, and just waiting for his chance to escape. According to DC, who first published Dream’s adventures, the executive producers for the series are Gaiman, Allan Heinberg (screenwriter for Wonder Woman), and David S. Goyer (screenwriter for Dark City and The Dark Knight trilogy). Screenwriting duties is afforded to Jack Thorne, previously responsible for A Long Way Down and the upcoming His Dark Materials TV series.

Further details regarding the series is a bit sketchy, and for now there is no news about a possible release date, or who will be directing the series. Netflix ordered ten episodes, but with a run of 75 issues on the original comic, there is a lot of original material to work off, so expect at least a follow-up season if all goes well.  

Sandman fans were treated last year to an expansion of the comics with The Sandman Universe range of titles seeing the light of day. We end this article with Metallic’s classic Enter Sandman, because why the hell (get it?) not.
