If PlayStation is your gaming mecca, you're likely aware that Sony has a new version of its PS4 console on the way. Codenamed 'Neo' for now, we initially expected the console to appear at E3 2016 earlier in the year, as Xbox was slated to unveil two new consoles of its own. While the Neo did not appear, Sony has confirmed a PlayStation event for 9 September, where the new device is being touted for debut.

Taking place in New York City at the PlayStation Theatre, it is scheduled to kick off at 21:00 (CAT). As expected, Sony has remained relatively mum on details for the event, stating only that PlayStation's business will be the key focus.

While a PlayStation standalone event would seem like the obvious choice to debut a new console, there is another opportunity prior to the 9 September date for Sony to showcase the Neo. That event being Gamescom, taking place later this month (17-21 August) in Cologne, Germany.

If Sony does however table the 9 September event for business, the Neo could also be shown to the public at the Tokyo Games Show (15-18 September) or indeed the company's Experience gaming conference, usually held in December.

Either way, PlayStation fans are eagerly awaiting to see what the Neo has in store. Hopefully, more details will emerge on 9 September.
