Over the past weekend, the Goethe-Institut showcased one of the latest creative spaces that it developed for the public to experience the value of gaming. Dubbed the Library-Gamebox-Hub, it is now open to the public and accessible at the Goethe-Institut's Johannesburg location in Parkwood.

As you can probably decipher from the name, the space comprises of three distinct areas, each with a specific focus. The Library provides iPads and computers for learners to use while conducting research in either English or German, as well as literature and audiovisual information about Germany 

The Gamebox, which is one of the newer offerings, features a state-of-the-art setup and houses a number of different consoles and VR experiences. As such it affords learners the opportunity to experience the latest interactive games, and will play host to curated gaming events in future, according to the Institut.

Lastly the Hub, which houses a number of creative nooks for entrepreneurs to work in. The Goethe-Institut has opened up applications from now until 31 August for interested creatives to take up residence in the spaces for up to six months. Along with the space itself, those within the hub will also gain access to mentoring, networking opportunities and other resources that the Goethe-Institut has.  

The Library-Gamebox-Hub's operating hours are as follows:

Monday–Thursday: 14:00–18:00
Friday: Closed
Saturday: 10:00–14:00
