The RED Hydrogen One smartphone set to ship by mid-year
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 24 January 2018 | Categories: newsIn the middle of last year, high-end camera maker RED decided to enter a new field with the announcement of their Hydrogen One smartphone. The device still remains shrouded in mystery, with a full look at all its design elements still unavailable. What was detailed, was the holographic display it would be touting, although the precise application for the technology still remains hard to decipher for now.
Nevertheless, the RED Hydrogen One has generated some interest, and now the device is being tentatively slated for a mid-year release. On the company's user forum, it was noted that the Hydrogen One should go up for pre-order sometime in April, and then ship to customers a couple of months thereafter.
Along with a release date, some of the internal specifications of the device have also been revealed, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835x processor powering things, as well as having a 5.7" frame that's said to be slightly thicker than most flagship phones.
Other notable elements include a 4500 mAh battery, as well as its display handling 2D, stereo 3D, augmented reality and virtual reality content, according to RED. While that sounds great, we're more interested to find out what camera setup it will be sporting, considering RED is known for its high-end offerings.
Whether the Hydrogen One will be more gimmick than groundbreaking remains to be seen.
