Microsoft is apparently very pleased with the design of its Surface Book, noting that consumers are fans of the tablet-hybrid, fulcrum hinge and Surface Pen stylus combination. So much so, that Microsoft opted to keep the interior for the new Surface Book the same as its predecessor and instead refresh the internal components.

The new Surface Book, now referred to as the one with the Performance Base or i7, will bring three different models to the fore. combining various graphics card and onboard storage specifications. More specifically 6th Gen Core i5 and i7 are on offer, as well as 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB SSD options.   

Added to this is twice the graphics performance of the original Surface Book as well as a reported 16 hours of battery life, according to Microsoft. To that end, the Core i7 Performance Base model has an Nvidia GeForce GTX 965M 2GB GPU at its disposal.

As far as other elements go, the display is still 13.5" with PixelSense technology, boasting a 3000x2000 resolution and 10 point multi-touch. Sans Perfomance Base, the Surface Book in tablet mode can also muster 12 hours of battery life if Microsoft is to be believed.

The new Surface Book is currently available for pre-order in the States, starting at $2 399. Seeing as the previous Surface Book was never released in SA, the chances of this new version arriving locally are slim at the moment. Still, we hold out hope that Microsoft South Africa changes their tune.
