Toyota's 2014 RAV4 range will look to cement the Japanese manufacturer’s position within the mid-size SUV market, with the introduction of an all-new model and enhanced equipment additions across the range. Motorists might have become accustomed to Toyota’s 2.2-litre D-4D diesel engine for the RAV4, but now have the added option of a six-speed automatic gearbox and higher specced VX trim and equipment for the 2014 range.

The 2014 RAV4 range is available in three four-cylinder models, starting with a 107 kW 2.0-litre petrol engine for the two-wheel drive (2WD) variants. The all-wheel drive (AWD) versions can be specified with either a 110 kW 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine that develops a solid 340 Nm of torque, or a 132 kW 2.5-litre variety. The 2WD RAV4 has a six-speed manual gearbox option or Toyota's Multidrive S transmission running a sequential seven-speed automatic mode.

Motorists now have the option of two trim packages, the GX and VX, with the former being less highly specced of the two and the latter offering a more luxurious and well specced interior. The GX model is fitted with exterior features such as standard roof rails, 17” alloy wheels and daytime running lights (DRL). The VX trim boasts power retractable side mirrors, moon-roof with tilt and slide function and high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps with cleaning system. The VX further offers value-added full leather upholstery, heated front seats, automatic dual-zone (front and rear) climate control and keyless entry system (Smart Entry).

Other notable changes across the 2014 range include a newly designed touch enabled multimedia screen (as standard), as well as the new 18” multi-spoke alloy wheels, exclusive to 2.5 XV model) The upgraded multimedia system in particular comes with a new high resolution screen that displays four times more pixels than the original system. The multimedia system also includes Bluetooth hands-free calling, rear-view camera (VX models), vehicle diagnostic information and USB enabled music player integration.
