Twitter announces the launch of native video for its developer kit
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 25 November 2015 | Categories: newsTwitter wants you to stay in-app. Helping to achieve this is a newly launched aspect of the company's developer kit, as a native video tool has been integrated. This introduction is simple enough. It's designed to allow users to view videos and GIFs in full screen mode without having to launch their web browser or exit the Twitter app.
At this stage support for full screen in-app videos is limited to iOS users, with Twitter stating that an Android version is on the way. Those wanting to see it in action will simply need a device running the latest version of Twitter or iOS 8 and higher.
According to Twitter's blog post on the announcement, this native video feature is the first, in a few projects the company is currently working on. In our opinion, this is something it needs to stay ahead of burgeoning social media apps like Snapchat, which are slowly infringing on Twitter's territory.
